Maryland Mom Receives New Heart after Giving Birth – CBS Evening News Plus
Kristin King was adjusting to life with the birth of a new baby when she began experiencing symptoms that were initially thought to be normal postpartum issues. Instead, she developed peripartum cardiomyopathy, a rare form of heart failure that occurs at the end of pregnancy, or within a few months of delivery. At four months postpartum, Kristin underwent an 11-hour heart transplant surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
