Worst Courses to study in Australia for Permanent Residency When considering pathways to permanent residency in Australia, it's essential to be aware that certain courses of study may provide very low to no chance of PR. If you are still considering studying in Australia, here are some courses that are generally viewed as less favorable for obtaining permanent residency: 5. Arts Degree or Performing Arts The arts degrees generally by themselves do not lead to an occupation on the list. If they do lead to an occupation, it may be after extra study, such as doing a Masters to become a psychologist. But I must say, if you have a passion to be a writer or history lecturer, then just follow your passion. But it probably won’t get you an Australian Skilled Visa. 4. Diploma in Travel and Tourism Management Similar to the other courses mentioned, this diploma may not offer viable pathways to permanent residency since the course is not included on the occupation lists. 3. Child Care Studying child care can be quite challenging, as it generally only leads to permanent residency through the 494 Employer Sponsored Visa or the DAMA. This means you cannot apply for the skilled visas 190 or 491 since the occupation is not on the occupations list. However, if you are a Child Care Manager, your chances increase since this occupation is on the list and provides more options for permanent residency. 2. Commerce (Accounting) Commerce is most usually studied with a view to the occupation of Accountant. Accountants generally need at least Bachelor degree level qualification and very high points to be able to be invited for a GSM visa. There has been an oversupply of accounting graduates, which has led to the points requirements getting higher and higher for GSM visas. To be invited for the 189 on 5 September 2024 the points requirement for accountant was 95. To get such high points will need things like superior English scores and doing a professional year and or a NATTI accredited language. So it is very difficult to get the points to get a points based visa for Accountant. 1. Business Management Diplomas and MBA Diploma level courses as Business Management, Diploma of Business, Diploma in Leadership and Management, or Graduate Diploma in Management Learning do not typically contribute to gaining permanent residency. This is because they do not provide a path to a positive skills assessment, due to most business related occupations on the skilled occupation lists requiring a degree. These business courses are often more affordable, leading many to enroll simply to extend their time in Australia. However, this can be problematic, as you may be investing time in a course that won’t assist you in your migration efforts. What about if you are already in one of these courses? If you are in a course with low prospects for migration, you need to be careful and get some advice before doing anything dramatic. If you simply stop studying, you may get your visa cancelled. Changing course may be an option, but you need to have a strong alternative course with a better path. You need to understand how long the alternative will take. You can only change after completing six months of your original course. Copyright Work Visa Lawyers Pty Ltd 2024
