Little Wandle Letters & Sounds Phase 2 How to sound out the phonemes (letter sounds) of qu, th, ch, sh, ng, nk Sounds taught to children in Reception during the second half of the autumn term. Many primary schools across the UK have now adopted the Little Wandle Letters & Sounds revised scheme in their phonics teaching. The aim of this video is to show how sounds are taught to children in Reception during the first half of the autumn term, so parents can better support their children at home. The following letters are included in this video: qu, ch, sh, th, ng, nk Each letter comes with two phrases: Pronunciation Phrase: How to sound out the letter Formation Phrase: How to write the letter Pronunciation Phrase for ‘qu’: Pucker your mouth, then open it as you say qu qu qu Formation Phrase ‘qu’: q Round the queen’s face, down her robe and a flick at the end. Catchphrase: qu Quick, it’s the queen! Pronunciation Phrase for ‘th’: Voiced: Tongue on your teeth, teeth almost closed to make a ‘buzzing’ th th th Unvoiced: Tongue on your teeth; push the air out th th th Formation Phrase ‘th’: th Thumbs up, we’re having fun. Pronunciation Phrase for ‘ch’: Pucker your lips and show your teeth; use your tongue as you say ch ch ch Formation Phrase ‘ch’: ch Chew the cherries, children. Pronunciation Phrase for ‘sh’: Pucker your lips and show your teeth; push the air out shshshshsh shshshshsh Formation Phrase ‘sh’: sh Share the shells.
