Many people come to me with complaint of itching in the groin. They say doctor I have itching in the groin and this itching worsens in the night time. I got it for the last few days. So what is the cause and what has to be done? As I already said this is a very common problem and itching in the groin in medical parlence it called tinea cruris. It is caused by a fungal infection or a yeast infection commonly called Candida. Why does itching in the groin occur ? This is because of the natural moisture that is there in the groin creases in every person when the skin is exposed to the air it dries up. However the groin crease and the groin skin is not exposed to the air and as we keep on sweating or even even after birth. If the drying is not complete this moisture buildup continues throughout the day and as we all know moisture is a good way to accumulate bacteria yeast and all sorts of infections. So yeast grow in damp area that is a groin crease and they cause infection and that causes itching in the groin. What is a treatment ? The treatment is by at home what you can do is you can keep the groin dry that is after bath thoroughly. Dry the groin and the groin creases and use some absorbent powders to keep it dry but if you still develop fungal infection. Then please go to the doctor where he prescribes some antifungal cream to be applied once or twice a day on a short-term basis. This eradicates the yeast infection or the fungal infection and removes the sense of infection from the groin.
