Yellow-Rumped Warbler ~ Audubon's Warbler

Yellow-Rumped Warbler ~ Audubon's Warbler

My Birds of Canada Playlist:    • Birds of Canada   Yellow rumped warblers (Setophaga coronata) have four related forms - the myrtle warbler (ssp coronata), the Audubon's warbler (ssp group auduboni), the black-fronted warbler (ssp nigrifrons), and the Goldman's warbler (ssp goldmani). There is a lot of discussion regarding whether these are subspecies or separate species unto themselves. In Canada, we have the Audubon's warbler in the west and the myrtle warbler in the east. Where the two populations overlap, they mate and hybridize freely. The Audubon's warbler may have even originated as a product of hybridization between the myrtle warbler and the Mexican nigrifrons form. Regardless of the discussion, this was the first time I had filmed warblers with any degree of success. They're skittish little things I find!
