Surah Al-A'raf (7) Ayah 167-174 - Tafsir Ibn Kathir (English)

Surah Al-A'raf (7:167–174) These verses continue the account of the Children of Israel (Bani Israel), highlighting divine punishment, repeated disobedience, and Allah’s mercy and warnings. Verses 167-168 – Ongoing Trials and Scattering: Allah informs that He will continue to send against the Children of Israel those who will afflict them with suffering until the Day of Judgment. This is a consequence of their persistent rebellion. He then scattered them in the earth into different groups—some righteous and others unjust—testing them with both prosperity and hardship so they might return to the truth. Verse 169 – Corruption of Later Generations: The next generations, however, inherited the Scripture but neglected its teachings. They prioritized worldly gain and falsely assumed they would still be forgiven. This verse critiques those who are deceived by wishful thinking and do not uphold the covenant of Allah or follow divine guidance. Verse 170 – Reward for Steadfastness: In contrast, those who hold fast to the Book and establish prayer are praised. Allah promises that He does not let the reward of the righteous be lost, showing that guidance and salvation remain open to the sincere. Verses 171-172 – Covenant at Creation (Alastu): These verses describe a profound moment when Allah took a covenant from the offspring of Adam, making them testify that He is their Lord. This was done to prevent mankind from claiming ignorance of their duty to worship Him. This covenant (known as Mithaq Alastu) emphasizes the deep-rooted awareness of God in human nature. Verse 173-174 – No Excuse Left: Allah clarifies that this testimony was taken so that no one on the Day of Judgment can claim they were unaware or simply followed their ancestors in error. Allah sends signs and clarifications so that people may return to the truth. Themes in these verses: Divine justice and mercy Historical lessons from Bani Israel The importance of sincere adherence to scripture The primordial covenant between God and mankind Personal responsibility in faith These verses emphasize reflection, responsibility, and returning to the path of truth regardless of inherited traditions or worldly distractions. #tafsiribnkathir #qurantafsir #araf #Alaraf #surahalaraf #quranrecitation #quranexplanation #quran #englishtafsir #learnquran #islamicknowledge #quranexplanation
