Long though to be lost, DAREDEVILS OF THE WEST had gained legendary status as one of the most actionful serials ever made, largely from the four complete chapters that were issued in 16mm by The Nostalgia Merchant in the 1980s. Although the breathtaking action sequences directed by John English and Elmer Clifton -- mostly shot on location in the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, California -- served as stock footage in numerous Republic serials and westerns, the serial was never re-released theatrically, and existed only its original 35mm nitrate form. A screening of a "complete print" -- with musical accompanied for chapters whose audio tracks had decomposed was held in 2008.
