What foods to avoid after gastric bypass surgery? - Dr. Nanda Rajaneesh
In Gastric bypass surgery what we do exactly is we create a small pouch in the stomach. The remaining stomach is completely disconnected and this pouch is connected distally to the jejunum. So with this, the individual who does this surgery, what will happens he will reduce his digestive capacity, he is also reducing his food intake. So any foods that stretch that pouch of stomach should be avoided. So lot of foods like maida, bakery reads, biscuits and wheats can stretch the stomach. It should be completely avoided and foods that form gas as should be avoided which can stretch the stomach and the small bowel, that is too much of high protein pulses in the form of dals, but you can take sprouts, which is very good as a protein. But proteins supplementation is very important. Normally we recommend the surgery for individuals who are non vegetarians who can take non vegetarian food. But the quantity that has to be taken as minimum as possible to maintain the protein diet. So what is most important that you should avoid high calorie foods like ice creams contain the sugary foods , it should be completely avoided because this high calorie diet, whatever you have done cannot be reversed if you continue to eat high calorie foods. So individual may have a failure and they will have something like dumping like syndromes if you like high sugary foods. So the side effects will be very high if you take icecream like foods.
