[Anchor] A fire broke out this morning at an apartment building in Daegu. Due to the fire, which occurred suddenly during the holiday weekend, about 40 residents were taken to the hospital after inhaling smoke. We will connect with our reporter for more details. Reporter Heo Seong-jun! When did the fire start? [Reporter] It was 7:36 this morning. It started on the 9th floor of an apartment building in Jincheon-dong, Daegu. Fortunately, it has been confirmed that there were no fatalities or serious injuries. However, as you mentioned, residents were unable to evacuate quickly because the fire broke out suddenly on a holiday morning. In particular, as thick black smoke rose up the stairs to the upper floors above where the fire started, many residents inhaled the smoke. So far, a total of 43 people have received treatment at nearby hospitals after inhaling smoke. The elderly and infirm were transported by 119 ambulance crews, while some visited the hospital on their own, complaining of shortness of breath and dizziness. Upon the outbreak of the fire, fire authorities urgently dispatched 50 fire trucks and approximately 140 firefighters. The fire was extinguished at 8:26 a.m., just one hour later. However, firefighting efforts were hampered by heavy smoke as the entire interior of the apartment burned down. The police and fire authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
