St. Jerome, September 30th
With a profound conviction, Ignorance of the Scriptures is Ignorance of Christ, a man in the latter part of the 4th century set out to perform the arduous task of translating the Bible from Hebrew and Aramaic to Latin. It was certainly a mammoth undertaking for a single man. It took him 18 years to complete the task which resulted in the production of the version of the Bible called the Vulgate. The man is, St. Jerome, a man of ponderous learning and exemplary holiness. Today, the 30th of September, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Jerome. Welcome to the saint of the day.
