#31 - Sheikh Zayed Masjid Skylight - Abu Dhabi - How to draw Islamic Geometry - زخارف اسلامية هندسية

This pattern is yet another one of those universal ones, seen in mandalas and other sacred art. In the masjid it formed the framework of a 3D dome shaped skylight, hence this has to be considered an approximation from 3D to 2D. I also took a bit of creative liberty with the centre and excluded the central circle, leaving it as a twelve pointed flower shape. I think this is my first exploration of 3d to 2D and can see a subtle difference in the shapes of the curved kites nearer the centre, it’s something I’d love to learn more about, so do share if you have experience of drawing 3D in 2D form, especially the patterns on domes.
