In this video, you will find: -The First Reading -The Second Reading -Gospel Reading -Reflections Reflection: The opening verses of Luke (1:1-4) provide a preface to the Gospel. Luke explains his intent to write an orderly account of the life and ministry of Jesus, based on careful investigation and the testimonies of eyewitnesses. His goal is to provide Theophilus, and all readers, with a reliable account to confirm the truth of the teachings they have received. This introduction underscores the historical and factual basis of the Gospel, aiming to strengthen the faith of believers. The passage then transitions to the beginning of Jesus' public ministry (4:14-21). After being filled with the power of the Spirit, Jesus returns to Galilee, where news about Him spreads, and He teaches in synagogues, gaining widespread admiration. His return to Nazareth, His hometown, is significant as it marks a pivotal moment in His ministry. In the synagogue, Jesus reads from the book of the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 61:1-2), a passage that outlines the mission of the Messiah: *Preaching good news to the poor. *Proclaiming release to the captives. *Recovering sight to the blind. *Setting at liberty those who are oppressed. *Proclaiming the acceptable year of the Lord. By choosing this passage, Jesus explicitly identifies Himself with the prophesied Messiah and His mission. His declaration, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing," is a profound statement of His identity and purpose. It signifies that the long-awaited deliverance and salvation have arrived through Him. This moment is both revelatory and revolutionary. It reveals Jesus' divine mission to bring hope, healing, and liberation to all, especially the marginalized and oppressed. It also marks a radical shift in understanding God's kingdom, emphasizing justice, mercy, and transformative grace. For us, this passage is a call to recognize and embrace the mission of Jesus in our own lives. It challenges us to follow His example by bringing good news, advocating for justice, and offering compassion and healing to those in need. It invites us to see Jesus not just as a historical figure but as the living fulfillment of God's promises, actively working in our world today.
