If you want to find our church in Hwasun, please go to our Facebook page here: / gwangjusuwonjigulighthouse.org In Jn 15:1-2 we have a summary of what Jesus is saying, Jn 15:1 I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. So, with this summary that Jesus gives at the beginning are two questions. Jn 15:2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away;… Well, how? Jn 15:2 and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. And again, the question is how? I was with my grand-nephew on Friday night and he and I were playing Legos on the table in the living room. And I asked my nephew, or my grand-nephew----Can I build a house on the LEGO table? And my nephew said----No, no, this is an airport! And he was quite insistent that he was building an airport. And he showed me the runway, and the control tower, and the trucks to pull the planes. And so, when I understood that my grand-nephew was building an airport, I built an airplane. And that goes together with an airport. And he was quite happy with that. And he said----Yes, an airplane is fine for my airport. And this sermon is about what fits together. You know, the plane fits with an airport; a house doesn’t. Sheep go with a farm, but fish don't. We're talking today about what coheres or what goes together. And when we read John's gospel, life coheres to Jesus. When we hear the gospel, we must decide----- do we want life? When we hear the name of Jesus it’s----life coheres to him. I was with my grand-nephew Friday night. We played with the Legos on the living room table. I asked-----“Can I build a house here in the middle of the Lego area?” And he said----“No this is an airport.” Here is the runway. And the control tower, and the trucks to pull the planes. So when I understood it was an airport, I built a plane---Planes fit in airports, houses don’t. And this sermon is about what naturally goes together. A house doesn’t fit at an airport, or a fish belong on a farm. If two things cohere, they go together. Each chapter of John’s gospel mentions life. Jesus gives life, Jn 1:4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. Jesus is life’s victory, Jn 2:19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” Jesus is life’s offer Jn 3:15.. everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” Jesus gives living water, Jn 4:14… the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Jesus speaks the living word, Jn 5:24 …whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life…Jesus gives the living bread, Jn 6:35…“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry…Jesus gives the light of life, Jn 8:12…“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jesus is life’s gate, life’s shepherd, Jn 1 10:9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. Jn 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life… Jesus is Jn 11:25… “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;…
