Latest disturbing figures by the National Agricultural Research Institute in Kawanda indicates that Ugandan banana farmers lose $500 million as a result of the absence of the Genetical Modified law to enable the production of genetically engineered genes that are resistant to bacterial wilts that have riddled banana plantation in many regions of Uganda. As Timothy Sibasi reports from Kawanda National Agricultural Research Institute, Dr. Priver Namanya Bwesigye says that also maize farmers lose $19.4 million accounting for 30% loss every year.
