The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington held a Reflection Procession and solemn Mass in honor of the 111th World Day of Migrants and Refugees on Sunday, September 28, 2025. This year’s theme, chosen by the Holy Father, “Migrants, Missionaries of Hope,” calls us to recognize the courage and faith of those who leave everything behind in search of a better future. The day began with a prayerful pilgrimage at 2:30 p.m., departing from the Shrine of the Sacred Heart (3211 Sacred Heart Way NW, Washington, DC) and concluding at the Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle (1725 Rhode Island Ave NW, Washington, DC). Together, we walked in solidarity—lifting our voices, hearts, and prayers for those who journey in search of safety, dignity, and hope, and who continue to face profound challenges. Organized in partnership with Jesuit Refugee Service, the procession offers a powerful opportunity to foster compassion, understanding, and unity with migrants and refugees. The celebration of the Eucharist at the Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle was held at 5:30 p.m. The principal celebrant was be Cardinal Robert McElroy, Archbishop of Washington, whose presence marked this occasion with spiritual significance and pastoral care.
