Search underway for driver missing in NSW floodwaters
A search is underway for a driver missing after their car was swept away by floodwaters in Sydney's north west. The search was launched after the heaviest rain in nearly three decades lashed parts of Australia’s east coast at the weekend. More than 100,000 residents in New South Wales and Queensland have lost power as strong winds and torrential rain continue to pummel the east coast of the country. The NSW SES issued flood evacuation orders for residents around Narrabeen Lagoon in Sydney’s northern beaches overnight, where authorities warned the lagoon was rising rapidly. Residents were also told to head to evacuation centres at Mona Vale, Moorebank, Chipping Norton and Milperra on Sunday night. The SES received close to 500 calls for help, 32 of which were for floodwater rescues after drivers became stuck on flooded roads. Image: Getty
