During his briefing on Memorial Day, Cuomo announced that the state will provide benefits to families of frontline and essential workers who have died while combating COVID-19, saying that ‘we want to make sure that we remember them, and we thank our heroes of today, and they’re all around us.’ These ‘heroes’ include public employees like health workers, firefights, MTA employees, and emergency medical workers among others.
