TOPIC: LORD, TO WHOM SHALL WE GO? First Reading: Acts 9: 31-42 Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 116: 12-13, 14-15, 16-17 Alleluia: John 6: 63c, 68c Gospel: John 6: 60-69 Described as “a man for all seasons,” St. Thomas More was a literary scholar, eminent lawyer, father of four children, and chancellor of England. An intensely spiritual man, he would not support King Henry the VIII’s divorce from Catherine of Aragon in order to marry Anne Boleyn. Nor would he acknowledge King Henry as supreme head of the Church in England, breaking with Rome, and denying the pope as head. When Thomas More resigned as chancellor, unable to approve the two matters that meant most to Henry, the king had to get rid of him. Before his execution on July 6, 1535, More made a final statement, proclaiming that he was “the king’s good servant, but God’s first.” Do we believe, as St. Peter in the Gospel, and St. Thomas More, did, that Jesus could change our lives because He has the words of everlasting life? Let us ask the Lord to increase our faith that we may grow in our relationship with Him and in the knowledge of His love for us. This is the 1112th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings. [NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Solphie Confiado as he brings us today's reflection. All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
