Four-term lawmaker Won Yoo-chul elected as ruling party′s new floor leader 새누리

And we begin with domestic politics in Korea. As expected, the ruling Saenuri Party elected a new floor leader this morning at a general meeting of party lawmakers at the National Assembly. The man in question, four-term lawmaker Won Yoo-chul, will represent the party′s one-hundred-60 lawmakers for the next nine months. For more details, we connect with our National Assembly correspondent Park Ji-won. Jiwon Hi, Mark. The new floor leader, Won Yoo-chul, was chosen by consensus during a meeting with the party′s lawmakers this morning. In his acceptance speech, the 52-year old Won vowed to mend the broken relationship with the presidential office and the government,... by strengthening communication with both. He said that the party′s future... and its chances for victory in next year′s general elections depends on the success of the Park Geun-hye administration. He also vowed to work closely and cooperate with the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy party. He said he′d seek to have regular meetings with his counterpart Lee Jong-kul,... the main opposition party′s floor leader. And we also heard the main opposition party′s floor leader held a press conference this morning about the government′s multi-billion dollar supplementary budget plan. What did he have to say? That′s right, Mark. At the press conference this morning, Lee outlined the liberal party′s stance on the supplementary budget plan. He said his party will push to increase the amount of the supplement... for the benefit of the people and medical institutions that suffered as a result of the MERS outbreak. In addition, he said the party is firm on its stance that the approximately five billion U.S. dollars in the plan... allocated to covering the current tax revenue deficit... should be cut. He also said the party will review and readjust line items related to infrastructure development. He added that the party hopes to get the plan passed this month... and asked the ruling party′s new floor leader to accept their proposals. That′s it for now, but I′ll have more on this story in our next newscast. I′m Park Ji-won, reporting from the National Assembly in Seoul.
