UK hits back at EU legal action on Northern Ireland Protocol! (4k)

The UK has pushed back against the EU threat of legal action saying that the grace period extensions are lawful. FACEBOOK: @JeffTaylorBrexit TWITTER: @JeffTaylorUK UK hits back at EU legal action on Northern Ireland Protocol! Earlier this afternoon the EU sent the UK two letters. One to the government warning that it is starting formal infringement proceedings against the UK. And a second letter to the UK post-Brexit negotiator Lord David Frost telling him to back off from implementing the plans to extend the grace period. And as I pointed out in an earlier video, as far as I can see, they've started these proceedings before we've actually broken any rules. The government has now responded saying that it had received the letters and that a response will be forthcoming in due course. And a government spokesperson said: "We’ve been clear that the measures we have taken are temporary, operational steps intended to minimise disruption in Northern Ireland and protect the everyday lives of the people living there. "They are lawful and part of a progressive and good faith implementation of the Northern Ireland Protocol." And the spokesperson went on to say that these low key sorts of operational measures are normal in the international arena and are "... well precedented and common in the early days of major international treaties." It was pointed out that the EU also seems to need some time to implement the detail and, as the protocol had only been in force for seventy odd days, it is normal to take this type of action. "This is a normal process when implementing new treaties and not something that should warrant legal action." They said. And then they went on to stress the importance of both sides of the Good Friday Agreement, something the EU and the Republic of Ireland steadfastly refuse to acknowledge. On this he Spokesperson said: "All sides need to keep in mind the fact that the Protocol depends on cross-community consent and confidence if it is to work and deliver our common objective of protecting the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement in all its dimensions, North-South and East-West." And that'll be the bit that Brussels will not be listening to, it'll be earphones on and playing 'Ode to Joy' extremely loudly, no doubt. 4k. 4k video. #NorthernIrelandProtocol #Brexit #NorthernIreland
