An Artistic Glimpse of Paradise-Episode I: Saint Lucy's Church, Newark, New Jersey. Saint Lucy's Church is on 7th Avenue in the heart of what was once the largest Italian neighborhood in Newark, N.J. known as the First Ward. It was home to many greats such as Joe Pesci, who lived right on 7th Avenue near the church when he was a kid. Saint Lucy's is the most mystical and beautiful church in New Jersey and is an artistic patrimony treasure. It was built by Italian immigrants with love and devotion to God and they didn't spare any energy or money in its beautification. It is full of amazing stained glass, an ornate altar, breathtaking murals and many statues from various towns in southern Italy (there were processions every month in the past). The church is the National Shrine of San Gerardo (Saint Gerard) of Maiella di Caposele. The Feast of Saint Gerard has been celebrated here since 1899. In this filmino, I walk you through the church to show you the amazing artwork inside during the 125th Feast and procession of Saint Gerard in 2024.
