India's great cultural heritage is unique throughout the world. In ancient India, there were an arrangement of various tools and irrigation facilities developed for farming. At that time, wheat, barley, paddy, jowar (sorghum), millet, sesame, peas, etc. were cultivated. 2500 years ago, the iron-tools like, an axe, plough, sickle, etc. were used in the field for agriculture. In ancient time, canals, wells, lakes and artificial reservoirs were created for irrigation. There were three types of people in South India : (1) Big landlords (2) Small farmers (3) Landless labourers In ancient times, the people generally wore two clothes. The cloth of lower part of the body was called 'Nivi' and the cloth of upper part was called 'Vaas'. The cloth like dupatta was called 'Adhivaas'. Historians divide ancient art into two parts: (1) Fine arts (2) Performing arts Indian literature is divided in three sections as religious, non-religious (general) and the descriptions of foreign travellers. Vedas are the oldest religious literature of India. Brahmin texts and Aranyakas were created to explain Vedas. Brihadaranyak text was the most important text of Aranyakas. Shatapath Brahmin and Gopath Brahmin were also the important texts. In the epics of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, there is a triangular confluence of ancient Indian society, culture and religion. 'The Mahabharata', written by Ved Vyas was initially known as 'Jay Sanhita'. 'The Ramayana', written by Valmiki depicts social life and moral standards along with the story of Lord Rama. The number of the Upanishads is 108. The Upanishads like, Katha, Ken, Prashna, Mundak, Mandukya, Ishavasyam and Chandogya were the great texts of Indian philosophy. The numbers of famous puranas are 18. Vishnupurana, Garudpurana, Vayupurana, Matsyapurana, etc. are the main puranas. Bhagavat is known as our special text. The original text of Buddhism is called 'Tripitaka'. It includes 'Sukta(Sutra)pitak', Jain texts are called 'Agam' texts. They are 12. The ancient literature of Jainism is divided into 14 Parvs and 12 Angs. The great poet like Kalidas, Bhas, Shudrak, Bharavi, etc. were the great poets of Sanskrit literature. These five vidyapeeths were famous in the field of education in ancient India: Takshashila in Gandhar, Nalanda in Bihar, Vallabhi in Gujarat, Vikramshila and Anantpuri in Bengal. The education of ethics, Sanskrit grammar, astronomy and astrology, Hinduism and philosophy were given in Takshashila. The oldest coins in India are known as 'Panchmark coins'. After that, Indo-Greek kings started the special types of golden coins. The best coins found belong to the Gupta Era.
