
Greater Alarm Structure Fire: LAFD Battalion 13
In the early morning hours on 7.8.22, the LAFD responded to a reported structure fire at the intersection of W 83rd St and S Western Ave in FS57’s first due. At the time, Engine 33 was moved up to 57’s because of staffing. Engine 33 and LF66 arrived, with LF66 reporting a one story, vacant commercial 50’x150’ well involved, requesting one additional TF and in the defensive mode. LF66 became known as Western IC. Engine 33 was assigned FA on the A Side with large hand lines and the deck gun off the engine to knock down the bulk of the fire, with RA857 attached. T66 began setting up ladder pipes, E66 went to the B Side for forcible entry and FA on a potential exposure and LF33 went to the C side to check up on the exposure. B13 arrived and assumed command of the Western Incident. LF64 would arrive and set up ladder pipe operations on the D side. The incident was ultimately escalated to Greater Alarm status, with 83 firefighters assigned taking 53 minutes to achieve knockdown. One potential injury was reported but nothing life threatening.
