He was a Catholic priest, educator, and author of many children's stories. He wrote 40 story books for children and his stories were translated into 24 different languages. O Come Little Children actually comes from a poem called "The Children at the Manger." Although it was first set to another tune, the most popular one was written by Johann Abraham Peter Schulz (1747-1800).
