After the magnificent win over Blackpool, City hoped to gain some momentum at home by beating Chesterfield in their back-to-back home fixture. Under pressure City boss John Bird kept faith with the same players that had defeated the Seasiders a few days earlier. However, things did not work out as planned and, when Phil Crosby made a mistake in his own area, Chesterfield striker Dave Lancaster picked up the pieces to fire home on 37 minutes. It was a poor display from City and, in the second half, the Spireites nearly went two up when Chris Benjamin hit the post with a firm volley. City’s first shot on target only came in injury time, a tame effort from Tony Barratt, and the City fans left disappointed. York City: Marples, McMillan, Crosby, Reid, Tutill, Warburton, Pepper, McCarthy, Osbourne (Naylor), Barratt, Canham. Attendance: 2,382 Footage from ITV Sport Re-edited and Remastered by Phil Howden
