Create Belonging and Positive Behavior through Restorative Practices
There is growing awareness amongst educators that punishments such as detention and suspension only aggravate issues such as bullying, violence, poor academic performance and parental apathy. This has prompted educators’ curiosity about restorative practices that promote inclusiveness, relationship-building, problem-solving, and repairing harm. Through restorative methods such as establishing collaborative norms, community circles, restorative conversations, peer conflict mediation and collaborative community service, students learn to reflect on and take responsibility for their actions, create plans to repair harm and feel a sense of belonging in their classroom and school community. Join us for this session to learn more about the need for and benefits of these practices and how every teacher can exchange more punitive approaches for restorative actions.
