DSM5 criteria for the diagnosis of ODD that is Oppositional Defiant Disorder show a pattern of behaviours that includes 4 symptoms from any of these 4 following categories. Angry and irritable mood, argumentative and defiant behavior. Vindictiveness occurs with atleast one individual who is not a sibling, causes significant problems at school or work or home, occurs on its own. Last at least for 6 months. The causes of Oppositional Defiant Disorder is not well known, but it can be genetic, it can be environmental. Complications, may lead to problems such as poor school or work performance, antisocial behaviour, impulse problems. Substance use behavior and suicide. Many children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder have many other mental conditions such as ADHD, depression, anxiety disorder, conduction disorder, conduct disorder, learning and communication disorders. ODD can be treated effectively when these other mental health conditions are evaluated and treated appropriated through cognitive behavioural therapy.
