Weed Suppression with Wood Chips: Organic Gardening Update & Volunteer Plants | No-Till Garden

In this video, I update you on the progress of my garden two weeks after laying wood chips for weed suppression. I show the difference between my no-till, compost, and wood chip beds, comparing them to a tilled bed, and explain why I prefer wood chips for maintaining healthy, weed-free soil. You’ll see my peppers, tomatoes, basil, chamomile, and a variety of volunteer plants, including butternut squash and kale, thriving without weeds. I used a broad fork to till a 45 x 6 ft garden bed. I then worked in some compost then covered it with a layer of topsoil. It didn’t take long before the bed was overrun by weeds. So this video was about having to weed and add a hefty layer of mulch for weed suppression.
