I tested a variety of laptops including a 13" macbook pro and two 15" Macbook Pro's with FCX Final cut pro X, Devinci Resolve 15, and adobe resolve 2018. The codecs that were used were ProRes RAW, 4K h.264 and 4K H.265 HEVC, RED R3D RAW, and Canon Cinema Raw Lite from the C200. Overall I wasn't happy with the results for anyone with a 15.4" Macbook pro. If you have a new 13.3" mid 2018 Mabook pro with the quad core processor this blackmagic egpu is a good fit especially if you want to connect to a thunderbolt 3 display like the LG ultrafine 5K monitor. The eGPU is very quit but large and with a non upgradable graphics card which is a major downside. For most I would suggest getting a seperate extenal enclosure like the Sonnet and then pair it with a vega 64 if you can afford it. If you enjoy our content please consider supporting us on Patreon.
