I have transposed it to a very easy key (C) so the shapes are a lot easier than on the original recording. We'll learn how to play this classic oldie in a step-by-step way, with helpful visuals. This is by far the easiest way to do it. I know that it has quite a few chord shapes, but the switching it's actually really easy from chord to chord. Almost every one of them shares a common finger and if you follow it, the way that I teach you, this feels a lot easier than it should be. We practice the switching using downstrokes only, working our way through the chord progression just so we can get used to playing it without the strumming pattern, focusing on the counting and playing each chord for the right amount of times. The strumming pattern for this one is dead simple. It's just a few downstrokes and we accent one of them. The most important part is counting the time correctly. The song is in 6-8 time and that means we have to count it a particular way, “1+a 2+a.” We work on feeling the beat and then we add the strokes. And from here it's really simple. We just have to add our chord progression and that's it! So once we have our chords and our strumming separate, we can put them together and play through the verse nice and slow. All that's left is the bridge. This requires a couple more chord shapes: B7, Dm, A7. We practice the switching and then we add our strumming pattern. Putting this all together is simple. It's one of those old fashioned tunes where we just go back and forth between the two sections. Once we're comfortable with that, we can play through the entire song. If you'd like to practice the entire song with me, there's a full playthrough available on my Patreon page, where I play through the entire song, start to finish.
