The Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, the three Archangels is September 29th. The three archangels whom the Church honors by name are Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel, and Saint Raphael. They are also the only three angels who are mentioned by name in Sacred Scripture. Saint Michael: Saint Michael the Archangel is an angel, and the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is what the title "Archangel" means, that he is above all the others in rank. Saint Michael is the "Prince of the Heavenly Host." Saint Michael has four main responsibilities or offices, as we know from scripture and Christian tradition. The first is to combat Satan. The second is to escort the faithful to heaven at their hour of death. The third is to be a champion of all Christians, and the Church itself. And the fourth is to call men from life on Earth to their heavenly judgment. Saint Gabriel: Saint Gabriel is an angel who serves as a messenger for God to certain people. He is one of the three archangels. Gabriel is mentioned in both the Old and the New Testaments of the Bible. Saint Raphael: Saint Raphael is one of the seven Archangels who stand before the throne of the Lord, and one of the only three mentioned by name in the Bible. He appears, by name, only in the Book of Tobit. Raphael's name means "God heals."
