Yellow rumped Warblers at Bark Butter

Yellow rumped Warblers at Bark Butter

Spreadable suet isn't new to birdfeeding but it used to be reserved to those of us who could track down their own suet fat source and mix it up in the kitchen at home. Now, you can get big tubs of expertly formulated spreadable suet called Jim's BIrdacious Bark Butter. This video is an example of one way Bark Butter is dispensed (simply smeared onto branches of a tree such as this Crape Myrtle) and what it can do for birdlife in your yard. These are Yellow-rumped Warblers. There is a Pine Warbler about midway through the footage. I've marked it. I'll get more Pine Warbler footage soon. It's actually the species I was hoping to video today but the Yellow-rumpeds were so much more obliging. Also, I've slowed the footage down at a few points so that you can enjoy some of the fine points in the action. At full speed, it's actually difficult to see the suet go into their mouths. Near the very end, I slowed the footage way down because you can easily see the yellow rump of the Yellow-rumped. It's nice when the bird helps you to make sense of its name.
