Lesson 12 | Thursday, September 18 THE RADIANT FACE OF MOSES Read Exodus 34:29-35. Why did Moses' face shine? Moses went down to the camp of Israel with his face radiant after God revealed His loving nature to him. Was Moses aware of this phenomenon? Not at all. The closer one is to the Lord, the more aware one is of one's imperfections compared to God's holiness. What caused Moses' face to shine? It wasn't simply being in God's presence, as he had been with Him several times before without that phenomenon occurring. Moses was transformed, and his face shone when he understood God's goodness and kindness, and he was completely receptive to Him in response to the beauty of God's character. Our hearts and minds can experience a change when we surrender to God and allow Him to be the Lord and King of our lives. Read 2 Corinthians 3:18. How can Jesus gradually transform you into His image? Paul compares Moses' shining face to Jesus Christ and says that the glory of Moses (in whom the Law and grace of God were personified) surpasses the glory of the Law given through Moses. Christ and His Law can only be engraved in our character when we fix our eyes on Him (Heb. 3:1; 12:2) and by the power of God's Spirit (2 Cor. 3:12-18). Moses is a model demonstrating what God can do for us when we allow Him to transform our character and mold us into His divine image. This is what Paul means when he speaks of walking in the "newness of life" (Rom. 6:4). What areas of your character need to better reflect God's? Probably all of them, right?
