TOPIC: WHO IS THE KING OF OUR LIFE? First Reading: Second Maccabees 7: 1, 20-31 Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 17: 1bcd, 5-6, 8b and 15 Alleluia: John 15: 16 Gospel: Luke 19: 11-28 Today’s Gospel reading tells us of Jesus’ sorrow that the path of peace and fullness of life, the way of God’s laws and commandments was completely lost from the sight of his own people in Jerusalem. They were no longer willing to live by faith and trust in God. My dear brothers and sisters, we are now living in a world full of tempting idols and worship of the god of money, power, pleasure, self-entitlement and everything that takes us away from worshipping our true God, Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We need men like Mattathias who will not submit to the temptations of worldly kings and men like St. Thomas More who faced death by standing firm on his faith on our true God and King, with his famous one-liner, “I am the king’s loyal servant but God’s first”. May the Lord grant us enough grace and courage to be firm in our faith and trust in Him even if the world will look at our belief as foolishness. We are children of the light and may we shine like our Lord who is the Light of the world.   This is the 1308th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
