How To Regulate Your Nervous System | Somatic Exercises | 8 Minutes

Welcome to my 8 minute somatic routine to reduce stress and anxiety. This routine introduces you to a series of somatic exercises designed to help regulate your nervous system. In this video, you'll learn: 1)Hands Over Eyes: Placing your hands over your eyes creates a sense of safety by reducing sensory input. This helps your body relax and shift out of a heightened state. 2) Advanced Self Hug: The act of hugging yourself applies gentle pressure and warmth, mimicking the comfort of a real hug. This activates your parasympathetic response, promoting feelings of safety and self-soothing. 3) Triangle Rubbing Hands: Rubbing your hands in a triangle pattern focuses your attention on tactile sensations. This mindful movement grounds you and distracts from racing thoughts. 4) Physiological Sigh: This simple yet powerful breathing technique (endorsed by Dr. Andrew Huberman) involves two deep inhales followed by a long exhale. It helps release excess carbon dioxide from the body and triggers an immediate relaxation response. 5) Shaking: Shaking is a natural way to discharge excess energy and tension from the body. It mimics the way animals "shake off" stress after a threat, leaving you feeling lighter and more grounded. Why It Works for Anxiety Somatic exercises bridge the gap between mind and body. By focusing on physical sensations and movement, they provide a direct path to calming the nervous system, even when the mind feels overwhelmed. These practices not only reduce immediate feelings of stress and anxiety but also teach your body how to recover from stress more quickly over time. Somatic exercises are rooted in neuroscience, particularly the interplay between the body and the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Anxiety is often a result of dysregulation within this system, and somatic practices provide a science-backed way to restore balance. With regular practice, somatic routines can help you feel more centered, resilient, and in control, reducing the intensity and frequency of anxiety episodes. They’re simple, accessible, and highly effective—making them a valuable tool for enhancing overall well-being. - Whether you’re new to somatics or looking to deepen your practice, this routine offers a gentle introduction to connecting with your body, mind and soul. Don’t forget to like, comment, and share your experience. Thank you for joining me on this routine! Reminder: If you sigh, yawn, shiver, swallow or have an emotional release, this is a sign your nervous system is starting to regulate and feel safer. - Subscribe for more videos:    / @shebreath_teresa   Find me on instagram: instagram.com/shebreath_official More on my website: shebreath.com - As a trauma-centered somatic practitioner and breath therapist, I help you regulate your nervous system through somatics and breathwork.
