First Reading Deuteronomy 6:2-6 Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 18:2-3, 3-4, 47, 51 Second Reading: Hebrews 7:23-28 Alleluia: John 14:23 Gospel: Mark 12:28B-34 In today’s gospel reading, Jesus is asked by a scribe which among the six hundred plus commandments of the Jewish law was the most important. Scribes, during Jesus’ time, were experts in the Jewish law and they were, as a group, along with the Pharisees, resentful of Jesus’ radical interpretation of the Jewish law. They were one of those who were actually responsible for putting Jesus on trial, handing Him to Pilate to be crucified. But there was this respectful scribe asking this question. Jesus gives him not one but two greatest commandments summarizing all that have been written. He cites the most cardinal of them all from the book of Deuteronomy ⏤ love God will all your heart, soul, mind and strength. And then the second from the book of Leviticus ⏤ love your neighbor as yourself. We reflect today on how we see others around us. Are we capable of seeing the good in others and show them the love that we supposedly profess to the Lord in our religious piety? This is the 572nd installment of our CFC quarantine contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings. [NOTE: All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
