#TheLastDaysOfAntiochusEpiphanes #SelfExamination #HowOthersWillRememberUs TOPIC: HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR LIFE WILL BE EVALUATED BY THOSE WHO HAVE KNOWN YOU? First Reading: 1 Maccabees 6:1-13 Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 9:2-3, 4 AND 6, 16 AND 19 Alleluia: 2 Timothy 1:10 Gospel: Luke 20:27-40 TIn today’s first reading, the author of First Maccabees writes about the end of King Antiochus IV’s reign. Having desecrated the holy city of Jerusalem and brought so much suffering on the Jews, he was now experiencing the effects of his tyranny. His armies were routed in battle one after the other and the temples of gods he built were torn down. Overcome by depression, he falls into sickness. He calls his friends to his deathbed. He wonders why, being well-loved and generous to his friends, he is now rewarded by failure and illness. But he realizes his great faults and the punishment of God for his cruel acts. As the scenes of our past life roll in front of us today, let us examine ourself closely, holding on to the commandment of love as our barometer of goodness to guide us. But prayer takes on a more intense nature when it has to disrupt the natural flow of things. [NOTE: All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
